So it was Friday night and I was out with my pal Johnny Perez. He had never been to Blue Parrot in Massapequa. I had been telling him that it was a place I liked and that there were nice barmaids that were friendly and there is usually a good band. Even their "house band" is good. Voodoo Biscuits. Since I was out alone I figured I'd call him so I did and he was game to go.

   We walked in and I saw the band members sitting at the bar. I asked them what was up. They pointed to the stage and said they were going to listen tonight. I looked toward the stage and saw a guy that was familiar. I asked them who that was and they said it was Stevie Cochrane. I had seen him long ago and not known him. I had heard of him lately and not known it was the guy I had seen 6 or 7 years ago.

    Johnny Perez comes to Blue Parrot once and he sees Stevie Cochrane. Naturally he loved the place. It was a great night. Look for Mr. Cochrane. Go listen to him. The guy can play guitar and he sings too. He covered the Winter brothers, Rick Derringer...so much more. It is the stuff I like...blues guitar with lots of style.

    F.Y.I. I also heard of some new places. The old Munchaba Lounge in Levittown is now the Vintage Lounge. They have live music but it looks like new alternative stuff. I also see that Lefties Candlelight Lounge is advertising a pretty full week of music and jam nights. Check them out at www.LeftiesBar.com. It is in Lindenhurst on South Hoffman Ave. Nice place for music and to hang out. I even ran into Steve Sandick and his son...a 16 yr old who jammed last Wed. night at Lefties. The kid was good. Steve Sandick is a photographer in the music industry. He shoots many of the country, alternative and folk shows and artists all over the country and he was on the staff of the Downtown.

    So I hope to see all my music friends out and about and I hope to hear news of good shows from ya'll.
